Boards Rocks!

The boards package is a forum package for bitweaver that is well integrated via LibertyServices and LibertyComments. It provides a way to link comments on any content into a forum in the boards package as well as have unlinked forums and topics in the package itself.

Boards is also integrated with the Pigeonholes package. Boards may be categorized into various categories and will show up within the boards home sorted according to the categories that they are in.

It currently supports locking threads and setting them sticky so they show at the top of the list for a given category. These are handled via ajax so the page does not have to be reloaded to toggle.

It has features for emailing users on changes to topics they are interested in as well as. It also has features for topic status tracking so that users can see which boards have new topics. It uses ajax to allow users to easily update the status without reloading the whole page.

Boards is very new and still a work in progress but the integration into the rest of bitweaver makes it a compelling alternative to phpBB.

group permissions

by ZyanKLee, Wednesday 14 of November, 2007 [16:43:05 UTC]
hey, I would like to see group based access, read and write permissions for every board.
So I can restrict the board A to the group 1 and the other board B to group 5 for example.

in addition http://www.simplemachines.org/about/features.php may give you some hints what else is missing to have a complete competitive forum software.

Priorities for Boards Improvement

by Edwin, Tuesday 24 of July, 2007 [10:28:23 UTC]
I would like to know what everyone thinks is the single most important feature that we had with PHPBB that is missing from Boards. I would like to compile the submissions into a poll that we can vote on to help developers identify priorities.

Avatar to float right of post

by Edwin, Tuesday 24 of July, 2007 [10:33:02 UTC]
Avatars humanize forums. However, the present layout of the forum places the avatar and user info above each post. This creates a great deal of white space. I would like the option (even through tpl editing) to shift the avatar and user info to the right of the post text in much the same way phpbb.com forums do now.

Will threaded messaging be available?

by GM, Wednesday 04 of April, 2007 [22:58:48 UTC]
I really like this change!

Question - will threading of lists be available? A lot of my users really like the ability to thread the listing of messages so they can follow the conversation better.
